CYSA Registration

Overview

The De Anza Youth Soccer League is made up of individual teams who are members of the De Anza League — our “home” league or “league of registration.” Teams affiliated with the De Anza Youth Soccer League (DYSL) may choose to register with one or more soccer associations under the FIFA umbrella.

The registration information on this site addresses in detail team registration with the California Youth Soccer Association — North (CYSA-N). DYSL is a member of the CYSA North, our State organization (Oregon border to Fresno). CYSA North is divided into districts, with DYSL being part of District II (from Millbrae to Salinas/Monterey). Most administrative matters are handled through the league and through the District II office of CYSA North.

De Anza is also a member of US Club Soccer. Registration with US Club Soccer is a separate process from CYSA registration. This site provides information and links for some of the US Club Soccer playing leagues. For more information on registration with US Club Soccer, contact Rick Bell (Force teams) or Pedro Cortopassi (all other teams).

Within CYSA there are three main levels of play:

  • Recreational (Division 4 or Class 4): Involves the majority of the players in the district. Players are assigned to teams on which all players must play at least 50% of the time throughout the season. Emphasis is on player development and soccer enjoyment.

  • Developmental (Division 3 or Class 3): For those players who have a greater commitment to advancing their skills. Players compete in leagues that involve traveling and may participate in a number of tournaments. The Association Cup is a CYSA-N tournament for Division 3 teams.

  • Select (Division 1 or Class 1): For players who are committed to the greatest advancement of their technical and tactical skills, as well as playing at one of the highest levels possible. Teams compete in traveling leagues and in local, state, regional, and/or national tournaments.

Registration of Division 1 and Division 3 teams and players with CYSA-N involves:

  • registering for CYSA through your home league (DYSL), referred to as “league of registration”

  • registering for a playing league:

    • Fall: Delgado, Abronzino, Premier, GSSL, etc.
    • Spring: DII Spring League or US Club playing league — NorCal Premier or Super Y-League

Registration of a team with DYSL normally takes place in the May - July time frame. USYSA and CYSA North operate on a seasonal year, running from August 1st — July 31st, with team and player registrations valid for this time period. The exception to this registration calendar is new teams formed during Jan/Feb tryouts. Those teams will complete their CYSA registration in the Feb/March timeframe, with the registration valid only for the second half of the seasonal year (spring into summer). For a more complete understanding of registration procedures, read CYSA North Team Manual, Section 3, Section 4 and associated PIMs (Policy Interpretation Memoranda).

Registration of a team or players with US Club Soccer can be completed at any time. Registration is valid from August 1 of the current year through July 31 of the following year.

Team Approval Process

Teams and coaches wishing to register with DYSL must submit a team application in the late November/early December timeframe, and have those applications approved by the league. Only teams approved by the league will be registered. This application and approval process is repeated each year, even for teams already part of the league.

DII Coaching License Policy

Coaches must submit a copy of their coaching license with their team application. Coaches and assistant coaches must submit a copy of the applicable coaching license to the league registrar with their registration form in order to be issued a coach's pass, if the license isn't already on file with the league registrar. The licensing requirements for DII coaches are as follows:

  • All Div 1/C1 and Div 3/C 3 head coaches shall hold at least a CYSA E/D coaching license.

  • All Div 1 and Div 3 assistant coaches shall hold at least a CYSA F coaching license.

  • New coaches of teams U15 and younger must obtain a CYSA F license in their first year, an E license in the next year, and an E/D license in their third year if they desire to be a head coach of a Div 1 or Div 3 team in District II.

  • All head coaches of Div 1 teams U16 or above in DII will be required to hold at least a CYSA State D coaching license or the equivalent NSCAA National diploma.

  • No individual may serve as the head coach of more than three (3) Div 1 and/or Div 3 teams at the same time.

Registration Calendar and Playing League Links

In addition to registering your team with DYSL, you will need to register for a playing league. Each playing league has its own registration timeframes and requirements. It is your responsibility to understand and meet those requirements. Note that there are different playing leagues in the Fall and the Spring. Your best sources of information are the websites for the playing leagues. Note that any/all of the dates listed below could change. Please check the websites regularly for updates. If required by the playing league, be sure to turn in playing league rosters and questionnaires to the DYSL registrar by the posted deadlines.

Scholarships

The DYSL player registration fee for Fall 2007 has not yet been set (Fall 2006 fee was $150). The sole source of income to DYSL, and therefore the sole source of funding for scholarships, is player registration fees received from De Anza players. In cases of financial hardship, families may apply to the League for a scholarship of all or part of the Fall registration fee. To apply for a scholarship, request a form from the league registrar, have the family complete the form, get the coach's signature, and turn in the form along with the player's registration paperwork. A separate form is required for each player requesting a scholarship. Your request will be reviewed and you will be notified of the outcome. Note that scholarships are only available to players residing within the De Anza League boundaries (zip codes — 95014, 95070, 95129).

In evaluating requests, the League looks for true financial hardship. The league does not want to turn away any player because they lack the funds to register. Simultaneously, the League does not believe it appropriate to fund scholarships for players whose families claim financial hardship primarily because they have placed soccer at a lower priority relative to other activities. Similarly, the League does not consider being unemployed or being a single parent an automatic indication of financial hardship.

De Anza scholarship funds are intended for players playing in the De Anza League. Any player receiving a scholarship and then transferring from the De Anza League to another league during the seasonal year will be required to reimburse the De Anza League for the scholarship amount before being transferred to the new league. Parent signature on this application acknowledges this condition.
